Description | Yomoichi Taniyama (then, 62), his wife, Aiko (then, 50), and their third son, Makoto (then, 15), were exposed to the A-bomb in their home. As flames licked up around them, they fled desperately through the rubble of destroyed houses. Arriving at the river, they found terribly burned victims lying along it, and hundreds of corpses were flowing by in the current. For nearly a year after the bombing, the Taniyama family suffered from fever, diarrhea and other symptoms. This incense burner had been on the Buddhist altar in their home; it was dug from the burned ruins two or three years later. |
