Description | Sachiko Hamada (then, 13), a second-year student at the First Hiroshima Prefectural Girls High School, was exposed at a factory in Furuta-machi while working as a mobilized student. Although the building collapsed, she miraculously escaped without injury. A week later, she went to the burnt ruins of her school with her mother Yoneko where she found this Kannon statue amidst the rubble and kept it as a prized memento. |
