Description | Pocket Watch Donated by Masako Watanabe 540m from the hypocenter Shimonaka-machi (now, Fukuro-machi) Mr. Sakae Watanabe was exposed to the A-bombing when he was at his workplace at the Hiroshima Central Telephone Bureau. On the following day, he was found dead by his wife Tamagiku (then, 47) and others who came to the bureau to find him. Mr. Watanabe was in an electricity room. Presumably because electricity had run from his shoulder to his knee very quickly, he was killed instantly with his hands unclenched and his body was lacerated. This pocket watch was found in his bellyband and then brought to his home as a precious memento of him. It has been preserved to this day with considerable care by his daughter Saeko. |
