Description Kazuko Nakano (then, 17) was exposed at the factory where she worked. Her mother, Motoe (then, 52), and two others were exposed at home in Hiratsuka-cho. The roof of the house flew off and the three skirted the approaching flames. As they crouched below the end of Tsurumi Bridge that evening, they were by chance reunited with Kazuko as she fled the factory. They held each other and rejoiced to be alive and together again. However, Kazuko's father, Jukichi (then, 56) disappeared at work and his remains were never found. Kazuko's watch was dug from the ruins the next day.
