Description | Small Box Donated by Eiko Kawamuki 900 m from the hypocenter; Koami-cho Setsuko Ota (12) was a student at Aki Girls High School. She had been mobilized and was exposed at her building demolition worksite. Her mother Yoshimi (then, 40) soon entered the city and found Setsuko lying on a riverbank with hundreds of other children. Yoshimi left Setsuko and the other children begging for water to search for it in the burned plain. By the time she found it and returned, Setsuko and all the others were dead. This box was in the bag Setsuko was carrying that day. |
