Description | Akio Kawamoto (then,13), a first-year student at Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial School, was exposed while working on building demolition as a mobilized student at Nakajima-shin-machi. Because his group was so close to the hypocenter (700 meters away), all the students and teachers perished. Countless indistinguishable corpses floated in the river and were strewn on the riverbank nearby. Akio's uncle and aunt never found his body, but picked up furoshiki eight or nine days later for a keepsake. |
