Description | Air-raid hood and death certificate Donated by Mieko Koseki Kenji Makimura (then 13) was hospitalized at Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital. He was having a meal when he was exposed to the bombing. His father, Taro (then 44), was with him at the time, and was blown away by the blast with his chair under the bed. When his father crawled out from under the bed, he discovered that Kenji, who was on the bed near the window, had pieces of glass piercing his entire body. Kenji died in front of Taro at 8:20 am. Using a bicycle, Taro took Kenji's body back home. He was cremated on the 8th, and they collected his ashes on the 9th. This air-raid hood was in Kenji's hospital room on that day. |
