Shuko's husband Ryusuke Horie (then, 46) was severely injured by the bombing in Ote-machi and hospitalized at Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital. Later, he was moved to Iwakuni Naval Hospital. He died on August 12, leaving a wife and four children.
