Seiichi Takehara was exposed as a member of the Training Unit of the Chugoku Miitary District to the north of Hiroshima Castle. He sensed the flash as he lost consciousness. When he came to, he was covered by burns from the heat ray. He escaped the flames rising in whirlwinds by rowing a boat into the river. He was admitted into a hospital on August 8 and began losing his hair at the end of the month. Watching other people in that condition dying around him, Seiichi prepared for the end. Instead, he recovered. |
