Description | Blouse Donated by Miyoko Matsumoto 710m from the hypocenter Ebisu-cho Miyoko Otsuka (then, 19) experienced the atomic bombing as she was wiping a desk in an office on the 2nd floor of Fukuya Department Store where she worked. She was trapped under the desk. Her left wrist was cut, presumably on a piece of a light, and she could see her bone. Many pieces of glass hit her and some of them are still in her body even now. This blouse was what she was wearing at that time. Her house in Shimo-nagarekawa-cho (approximately 1,000m from the hypocenter) was razed to the ground. A few days later, the body of her mother Kachi (then, 49) was recovered from the site. Miyoko was told that her mother Kachi was trapped under a beam of the house and was burned to death as she called out for help. |
