Description Yasuko Wada, the donor (then, 14), a third-year student of Hiroshima Girls Commercial School, was exposed to the bomb at a branch office of Hiroshima Savings Bureau to which she had been mobilized. Suffering from serious injuries on her back and right hand from flying glass shards, she desperately evacuated to Shukkeien Garden with her friends. The garden was a living hell on earth, however, with many people groaning and suffering from their injuries, craving water and dying one after another. Later Yasuko managed to escape to her cousin's home. Her mother Yoshi (then, 49), her elder sister Kazuko (then, 19), and her niece Yaeko (then, 2) were exposed to the bomb at their home in Takeya-cho and died at the Clothing Depot. The only mementos remaining of these three were some of their hair and pieces of their clothing.
