Description | The donor's daughter Sumiko Shimizu (then, 20) was exposed to the bomb at her building demolition site. Desperately making her way home with severe burn injuries covering her body, Sumiko met up with a brother-in-law and reached home in Minami-machi 3-chome with his help. She was taken to a hospital on a stretcher by her father Hiroichi and younger brother Taizo, and received first-aid treatment. Sumiko's face was swollen and red, and her neck and limbs were burned and festered. Although they then headed to Kusuna Elementary School, a designated first-aid station, Sumiko could not receive proper treatment. Over time, her consciousness began to fade, resulting in her death on August 7th, the next day. |
