These items were collected by surviving family members from the burnt ruins of their house. Fumika Ando's mother Hisako Kawasaki, younger sister Miyoko and younger brother Jiro were at home when the bomb exploded. Though trapped initially under the collapsed wreckage of their house, they managed to free themselves and take refuge in the outskirts of the city. While fleeing they discovered the dead body of their grandfather Itsuo, who had been patrolling the neighborhood. Jiro passed away due to A-bomb disease in 1946. |
