A large plate recovered from the burned ruins of the Horayama family’s home in Funairi-saiwai-cho. Father Goro and mother Yachiyo were exposed at home. Blown away by the blast they suffered severe injuries. Their house was burned to the ground. Exposed at work, which was 790 m from the hypocenter, their second daughter Shigeko was taken to Koi Elementary School. Approximately ten days after the bombing, their third daughter Asako (11 years old at the time) and their fourth daughter Nobue (8 years old at the time) were brought back from the group evacuation of school children to search for their family and relatives. The Hiroshima that they returned to was a burned ruin. The parents found Shigeko at the shelter, but her body was severely burned and in bad condition. They couldn't bear to show her sisters her tragic state, so they decided not to tell them about Shigeko, and she passed away on September 3rd. Yachiyo, who was pregnant, later gave birth to a stillborn baby. Goro passed away a few years later due to the A-bomb disease.
