Description | Yo Shikama, (then, 13), a second-year student at Shudo Junior High School, was in his school in Minami-senda-machi at the time of the bombing. Trapped under a collapsed school building, he managed to escape from the rubble. The next day, while searching for his family in the area near his house, he found this rice bowl among the ruins of a burnt house. Although he was soon reunited with his family, Mr. Shikama's older sister, Yuko (then, 15), a fourth-year student at Hiroshima Jogakuin Girls High School, was exposed at school in Kami-nagarekawa-cho and passed away about one month after the bombing. |
