Description | Shinichi Komura, grandfather of the donor, was exposed while walking near his home. His daughter Takeko Ishida and her husband searched for him determinedly, but never found a trace. Makiko’s grandmother Kiwa was exposed in the Hijiyama Hill vicinity where she was engaged in labor service. Severely burned, she made it to Takeko’s home. Assisted by her family’s devoted nursing, Kiwa’s burns began to heal, but suffering from continual diarrhea, she died one month after the bombing. Takeko cremated her mother’s body herself. This teapot was dug from the burnt ruins of the family home, and Takeko treasured it until her death. |
