Description | Toshihiko Matsuda (then 14) was a third-year student at the First Municipal Technical Junior High School. He was exposed to the A-bomb on his way to his assigned mobilization site. His mother Yukimi (then 34) immediately headed for Hiroshima and searched for him desperately. She was unable to find him, so she took this marble from the burnt ruins of their home to remember him by. Then, on the 8th, Toshihiko arrived home. Though terribly burned, he told his story with great intensity. "The bridges were burned, so I swam three rivers." |
