Description | This scroll was hung in the house of the donor Katashi Taniguchi. The roof had been blown off by the blast, allowing the black rain (*note) to pour into the house. The hanging scroll has marks from being showered by the black rain. In the Taniguchi family, the second son Isao (then, 13), a first-year student of Second Hiroshima Prefectural Junior High School, sustained serious burn injuries at his building demolition worksite in Nakajima-shin-machi. He died in the evening of the 7th, the day after the bombing. *Black rain: A heavy rain showering the northwest area of Hiroshima City around 20 to 30 minutes after the explosion. The large black rain drops contained dirt and dust whirled up by the explosion and soot from fires, and was highly radioactive. |
