This figurine was exposed to the A-bomb on the first floor of the Norisue home in Kokutaiji-machi. A few days after the bombing, Harunobu and his younger brother found it in the burned ruins of their home, the only remaining identifiable object. Harunobu, then in his fourth year at Shudo Junior High School, was exposed to the bomb as he arrived at his mobilization post, the Hiroshima Shipbuilding Yard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Eba-machi. He was miraculously spared when the blast blew him into an air-raid shelter. |
