Description | Flower vase Donated by Taizo Ishida Approx. 800 m from the hypocenter Sorazaya-cho (now, Tokaichi-cho 2-chome) On August 6, Hidekichi Ishida and his second daughter Fusae were carrying their luggage to their evacuation site in the suburbs when they felt a bright flash of light and saw a mushroom cloud. They tried to hurry back to their house in the city center, but the severe heat prevented them from doing so. It took them a few days to reach their house. Hidekichi's wife Isao and their third daughter Yukie were at home on that day. They were found dead, partially burned by the fire. His father-in-law, who suffered burns but managed to escape, said, "I couldn't save them," and died soon after. This flower vase had been standing on the shoe cabinet at the entrance of the house and miraculously survived without being broken. Hidekichi picked it out of the burnt-out ruins, and his eldest son Taizo carefully preserved it up to the present. Since it was burned in intense heat, its color turned into ocher. |
