Tsuneko's father-in-law, Katsumi Kataoka, was killed by the bomb while working at Hiroshima City-Hall. Apparently he died instantly. When found, his head had been severed from his body. His son Osamu (then 13) went alone to identify his father's body and suffered a terrible shock from the sight. He brought nothing home. Later, his father's colleagues signed the desktop his father had worked on and delivered it to the bereaved family in remembrance. They always treasured it as the precious remains of their father. |
