| 内容 | 県立広島第一高等女学校1年生の山田緑さん(当時12歳)は、学徒動員先である土橋付近の建物疎開作業現場で被爆、大やけどを負った。同級生の熊本悦子さんとともに必死で己斐の避難所まで逃げ、家族に再会した。もんぺの柄でやっと緑さんだということがわかるほどの真っ黒に焼け爛れた姿だった。母親の節子さんらが必死に看病したが、6日の夜、空襲警報のサイレンが鳴り、逃げようと起き上がったところで心臓発作を起こし、亡くなった。「緑さんは？」と心配していた熊本悦子さんも翌日家族に引き取られ、自宅に帰る途中、息を引き取った。この県立第一高等女学校の合格通知書は、家にあったもので、家族が遺品として大切に保管していたもの。 |

| 展示説明文（英語） | This letter is a memento of the donor's sister, Midori Yamada (then, 12), who was a first-year student at First Hiroshima Prefectural Girls High School. She experienced the A-bombing at her mobilization worksite 800 meters from the hypocenter. She sustained serious burn injuries but fled to a shelter several kilometers from the hypocenter with her classmate, Etsuko Kumamoto. She rejoined her own family there. Midori was burned black, barely recognizable except for the monpe she was wearing. Despite her mother Setsuko's attentive care, she passed away during the night of the 6th. Her classmate, Etsuko, who asked about Midori's condition, also passed away the next day while being taken home by her family. In memory of Midori, her family saved this letter of acceptance from First Hiroshima Prefectural Girls High School, which was at Midori's home on that day. Despite successfully entering this prestigious school, many girl students were mobilized daily for hard physical work and were killed by the A-bomb before attending any regular classes. |
