This savings book belonged to Hiroshi Taniguchi, the elder brother of the donor. Hiroshi (then, 15), a fourth-year student in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Hiroshima Municipal First Technical School, was exposed at his building demolition site in Zaimoku-cho and was taken in by the Hiroshima Army Welfare Hospital. On August 7, Hiroshi’s parents learned where he was and came to the hospital to get him. His body was burnt beyond recognition and his face was also inflamed and swollen. They finally recognized Hiroshi when he answered their calls. They carried him home in a cart, but he died that day. |
