| 内容 | 爆心地に近い原爆ドームそばの元安川河床には、原爆の熱線で表面が溶けた瓦がたくさん埋まっていた。1977年(昭和52年)以降、平和公園一帯で平和学習を続けていた広島県高校生平和ゼミナールの生徒たちは、数千点に及ぶこれらの瓦を掘り出した。 1981年(昭和56年)に、広島市が元安川の美化工事にのり出した時、高校生たちは瓦の発掘と平和への決意を固める碑の建設を呼びかけ、翌年の1982年(昭和57年)8月5日に建立した「原爆犠牲ヒロシマの碑」には、彼らの努力の結晶である「被爆瓦」がはめこまれている。 また、掘り出された被爆瓦は、被爆の証人として全国に送り出され、学校等で被爆体験継承教材として活かされた。 「川底で、瓦を掘るのはらくなことではありません。悪臭をはなつヘドロで、靴やズボンは、すぐにドロドロに汚れてしまいます。橋の上を通り過ぎる人たちの好奇の眼に、はずかしい思いをしたこともありました。それでも私たちは、ヒロシマの苦しみと悲しみに迫ろうと掘り続けました。」 『被爆瓦は語りつづけるー原爆犠牲ヒロシマの碑建設の記録ー』（編集・発行／「原爆犠牲ヒロシマの碑」建設委員会）より |

| 展示説明文（英語） | Roof Tiles of the Hiroshima Monument for the A-bomb Victims Donated by Hachinosu publishing Participants of the Hiroshima Prefecture Peace Seminar for High School Students, who had studied about peace since 1977 in and around the Peace Memorial Park, dug out many tiles from the bed of the Motoyasu River, located near Ground Zero. The surfaces of the tiles had been melted due to the heat rays from the atomic bomb. In 1981, when Hiroshima City launched construction to beautify the Motoyasu River, the high school students advocated the need to excavate tiles and construct a monument as a commitment to establishing a peaceful world. The A-bombed tiles are laid on the Hiroshima Monument for the A-bomb Victims, which was erected on August 5th in 1982. In addition, the A-bombed tiles were shipped to various parts of Japan, and used at schools and other facilities as materials to hand down the A-bomb experience to the next generation. |
