The Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall (at time of construction, Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall) was built in 1915. A modern Western building designed by a foreigner, it was considered one of the city’s most prominent landmarks. When the atomic bomb detonated about 160 m southeast of the building, it instantly shattered most of the structure, and the ensuing fires burned it thoroughly. At the time, the offices of the Chugoku-Shikoku Public Works Office of the Ministry of the Interior and the Lumber Control Corporation were located there. Everyone in the building perished. |
