| 内容 | 久保辰雄さん(当時41歳)は、爆心地から約2㎞の舟入川口町の勤務先で被爆した。床にたたきつけられ、飛散したガラスで後頭部を負傷した。出血がひどく、血だらけになりながら、押しつぶされた机から這い出し、火災で黒煙の上がる街を逃げた。道路には、男とも女ともつかない真裸の人々が、焼けた皮ふをひきずりながら、何百人と逃げていた。助けを求められ、舟入国民学校で校舎の下敷きになった子ども達の救出にあたった。生き残った先生と二人、必死で子どもたちを引っ張り出したが、耳や腕を失ったり、すでに息絶えた子どももいた。家族の安否を確かめようと、北榎町の自宅に向かった。燃え盛る火事の熱風を避け、土手から熱い石垣を登ると、自宅は廃燼となって、影も形もなくなっていた。自宅で被爆した妻子はなんとか逃げ出し、生きて再会することができた。しかし約一か月後、元気だった辰雄さんの弟は突然病床に伏し、毛髪は抜け、次第に衰弱、妻と二人の子どもを残して亡くなった。 この日本刀は、家宝として自宅に飾っていたもの。原爆で家が全焼し、鞘と柄は焼失し、刀身と鍔が残った。刀身は錆び、また熱のため歪んでいる。自宅の焼け跡から家財を回収した際、併せて持って帰ったもの。 |

| 展示説明文（英語） | Japanese sword Donor: Tetsuji Kubo Kita-eno-machi (now Eno-machi), 800m from the hypocenter A samurai sword, a family heirloom exposed to the atomic bombing at the home of Mr. Tatsuo Kubo (41 years old at the time), the donor's father. At the time of the bombing, Tatsuo was at his workplace located approximately 2 km from the hypocenter. He was thrown onto the floor, and injured the back of his head with shards of glass. Although covered in blood, he crawled out from under the desk that had crushed him, and ran through the city full of flames and black smoke. There were hundreds of men and women on the roads, all naked and dragging burned skin. He went home to check on his family, and found that his house had been completely burned to the ground. He was later reunited with his wife and child, who were A-bombed at home. However, about a month later, Tatsuo's younger brother, who seemed fine, lost his hair, gradually weakened, and passed away. <Excerpts from Hiroshima Shonin (Hiroshima Merchant) written by Tatsuo Kubo> “As a big brother, I see my little brother dwindling into such a painful state, and my heart becomes frustrated. ‘I cannot believe there is nothing I can do for him…,’ I thought. I wanted to at least give him nutritious food, and I searched everywhere, but nothing could be found. I thought ‘Oh, where is God? Where is Buddha? He was fine until two or three days ago, and now, I'm just watching him die.’ Fujie, my brother's wife, was simply watching her husband dying in front of her with a heavy heart, and said, ‘Dear husband, please get well again,’ in a distraught voice. However, my brother departed for heaven, leaving behind his wife and two children. Everyone there cried uncontrollably. Many, many people left this world, blown away by the pitiless wind.” |
