| 内容 | 安芸高等女学校生徒の大田節子さん(当時12歳)は、動員学徒先の建物疎開作業現場で被爆した。母親のヨシミさん(当時40歳)はすぐに入市し、節子さんを捜した。作業現場近くの川土手には大勢の子どもたちが無残な姿で横たわっていた。「節ちゃん」と呼びかけると、節子さんが「お母さん」と返事をした。節子さんや他の子どもたちが水をねだるので、「がんばるんよ。すぐ汲んでくるよ。」といって死に物狂いで探し、やっと水を汲んでもどったが、節子さんらは全員亡くなっていた。ヨシミさんは「ごめんね。」と泣きながら子どもたちの口を水で濡らしてやり、節子さんの遺体を焼いて持ち帰った。これは当日節子さんがもっていたもの。 |

| 展示説明文 | 布製かばん、小箱 爆心地から900m 小網町 川向(かわむき) 榮子寄贈 このかばんと小箱は安芸高等女学校1年生だった大田節子さん(当時12歳) が被爆当日持っていたものです。節子さんは建物疎開の作業現場で被爆｡捜しに行った母親が、川土手で同級生らとともに倒れている節子さんを見つけましたが、ねだられて水を探しに行っている間に、節子さんたちは全員亡くなりました。 母親･ヨシミさんのお話 節子が｢お水ちょうだい｣というと､まわりの息がある子たちも次々と水をねだるので､｢がんばるんよ｡すぐくんでくるよ。｣といってすぐに水を探しに行った｡なかなか水を見つけることができず､死に物狂いで探しまわった｡やっと水をくんで戻ると､みんな亡くなっていた｡｢ごめんね｡ごめんね｡｣といって皆の口を水で濡らしてやった｡」 （2019年本館常設展示） |
| 展示説明文（英語） | Fabric bag and small box 900 m from the hypocenter Koami-cho Donated by Eiko Kawamuki The day of the bombing, Setsuko Ota (12), a first-year student at Aki Girls High School, took this cloth bag and small box with her. She was at her building demolition worksite when the bomb exploded. Her mother searched for and found her lying on a riverbank with her classmates. Responding to their cries for water, her mother left to look for some. By the time she returned, Setsuko and the others had all died. Story by Yoshimi, Setsuko’s mother: When Setsuko asked me for water, other girls who were still breathing began begging for it. I said, “Hold on! I’ll be back with it soon!” and went off to search. I ran around furiously looking for water, but it was hard to find. As soon as I managed to get some, I rushed back to the girls. They were all dead. I moistened their lips with the water, crying, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” (2019 Main Building) |
