| 内容 | 救護活動中に身につけていた革脚半。当時海軍施設部に所属していた濱口進(はまぐちすすむ)さん(当時18歳)は、8月6日午前10時ころ、広島市に救護活動のため入市せよとの命令で、同僚2名とともに、トラックで入市した。市内は火の海で、猿猴橋から先には進めない状況であった。その日は夜中まで、奥海田小学校へ何度も往復して、たくさんの負傷者を運んだ。全身火傷を負って皮ふが垂れ下がった負傷者、体が真っ黒に焼けただれた負傷者、阿鼻叫喚のすさまじい状況であった。8月12日まで市内で救護活動を行った。 |

| 展示説明文（英語） | Leather gaiters* worn during relief activities Susumu Hamaguchi (then, 18), attached to the Navy Facilities Department, received an order to go to Hiroshima City for relief activities at around 10 AM on the day of the bombing. He drove a truck toward the city accompanied by two co-workers. Finding Hiroshima a sea of fire, they were unable to advance further than the Enko Bridge on the east side of the city, so they helped out until late at night by making numerous round trips carrying injured persons to the Okukaita Elementary School in the outskirts. It was a literal hell on earth, with some victims burned such that the flesh slid right of their bodies while others were charred pitch black. *Gaiters were wrapped around pants legs from the knee to the ankle, holding in the hem of the pants, facilitating movement. They were worn by army troops and many civilian men during the war. |
