He was in Hiroshima Railway Bureau Locomotive Division No. 1 where he had been mobilized as a student when the atomic bomb was dropped. The air raid warning had been lifted and he was just turning the tap on at the water fountain when suddenly there was a flash of light. He ran quickly to the air raid shelter, but was thrown by the blast. When he came to, everything around him was pitch black. He saw pillars of fire and black smoke rising up. At the public square nearby he helped to treat people injured in the blast. |
