14 years old at the time.She was working as a mobilized student in the basement of the Chugoku Military District Command Center in Moto-machi and was in charge of communication of the issuing and lifting of air-raid alerts. She was extremely busy on the night of August 5 with communication of the alerts. And then on the morning of the 6th when she was sitting at the switchboard, there was a flash of purple light in the basement, and she lost consciousness for 2-3 minutes. When she went outside from the basement the city of Hiroshima was a huge fire, and she rushed straight back to the switchboard and first contacted the military people in Kyushu and Fukuyama to tell them that a new bomb had been dropped on Hiroshima. |
