Description | Searching for relatives in a line of bones 650 m from the hypocenter, west end of Shin-ohashi Bridge (Dohashi-cho) About August 20, 1945 Sadako Kimura (45 at the time of the bombing, 75 when she drew this picture) Explanation in picture About two weeks after the bombing, human bones were spread like gravel over an area more than 220 meters long. My husband, two daughters and a grandson were missing. I looked for them every day but never found a body. I looked through the line of bones wondering if, possibly, the bones of any of my four were among them. In the picture, I am frightened when, unexpectedly, someone who looked like an army officer said, "Are you planning to take some of these?" |
