Description | Hauling up countless corpses drifting in the river 1,300m from the hypocenter/Under Yokogawa Bridge August 7, 1945 Terumi Nishida (33 at the time of the bombing, 62 when she drew this picture) Explanation in picture The army was hauling up bodies of the drowned under the bridge and laying them out. People who had fled to the river were now floating corpses who had been pushed upstream by the tide. Some must have had relatives among these corpses, but no one could bring themselves to call out, "Father!""Mother!" |
