Description | Burned Papers in a Safe Donated by Chiyoe Taruta 600 m from the hypocenter, Sakai-machi 1-chome These papers were exposed to the bomb inside a safe at the Taruta Sock Store. The store was also home to Asaka Taruta (47) and her first son Ryosuke (7). Her husband Takuo was exposed at his mobilized workplace. Takuo’s younger brother Tokuma (then, 33) entered the city and found Takuo’s body near his workplace. He found Asaka and Ryosuke dead in the burned ruins of their home. Tokuma wept as he identified the three bodies. As he could not move them, he decided to cut off an arm from each and take them home in lieu of bodily remains. |
