Description | Shell Case Holder Donated by Kazuko Haitani 500 m from the hypocenter; Takajo-machi (now, Honkawa-cho 2-chome) The bomb exploded when Saburoji Iwamoto (63) was standing at the sink in his home ironwork shop. His second son Michio (then, 36) hurried to the burned ruins of the home and found Saburoji’s black-burnt but still erect corpse. Saburoji’s wife Saki (60) was never found. Their eldest daughter Hisako (26) died on the 13th. Michio, who survived initially, died the following year of A-bomb aftereffects. This shell case holder, made by Saburoji, was found in the family bomb shelter by eldest son Kazuaki, who hurried home from Gifu Prefecture and arrived on August 15. |
