| Description | Leaving behind her policeman husband Hikoichi (then, 39), Tamako Horiuchi evacuated the city with their five children. She came to Hiroshima on August 8 to search for her husband, but never found even his corpse. The West Police Station where Hikoichi worked stood next to the Shima Hospital. The building was completely destroyed and burnt, and all staff on duty perished. When she searched for Hikoichi at the police station, Tamako found this sword and preserved it as a keepsake. |
