Description | Susumu Murakami's younger brother, Hiroyasu Murakami (then, 17), was exposed to the bomb at his workplace. Although he was pinned under a concrete pillar, he was able to free himself and make his way to a hospital aid station. His wounds were deep and the doctor told him he would die if he moved, but he was unable to contain his emotions seeing the injured people brought to the aid station dying one after another. Receiving only some medicine, he made his way back to his home in Mukaishima Town (now, Onomichi City). On August 19th, his dehydration worsened and he died in pain. Hiroyasu had been working in Tokyo before the bombing but moved back to Hiroshima because of intensifying air raids, following Susumu's advice. |
