Description | Older sister's dress Mitsue Yokoyama (then, 32) experienced the bombing while inside her home. Although she was burned and injured, she desperately made her way to the house in Ushita-machi. On August 9, her father, Yasumichi, died and his remaining family members gathered some of their household belongings and set out for Gono Village, Takata County. Looking up at the night sky full of stars for the first time, she felt relief that they would be free of air raids in the countryside, but her younger brother, Takaaki died before long on August 22. On the next morning, Mitsue also began to experience a drastic change in her condition. Besides having a high fever, her throat was swollen, and eventually she was unable to even drink water. Although she begged her younger brother, Shigeru, for help, he was unable to do anything for her, which was an extremely painful experience for him. Her misery ended with her death on August 29. |
