Description Yoshiro Mutsuoka (then, 13), a first-year student of Municipal Junior High School, was exposed to the bomb at his building demolition work site. Though burned over his entire body, he managed to get home under his own strength. Despite his family's attentive care, he died on August 7. This school uniform was found by his mother, Shikayo (then, 40) at his work site in the beginning of September.
Excerpt from the memoirs of his mother Shikayo:
"Yoshi-chan, why did you die before me?…. While he was suffering from his burns, crying out, 'It hurts, it hurts,' I could do nothing but merely apply oil to his burned and festering wounds. There was truly nothing I could do for him.… In the early morning of the 7th, when I was making green tea, he asked me to give him some. I gave him green tea drop by drop. With the third drop, he twitched his eyes and passed away with his eyes rolled back in his head."
