Description | Hideo Goto (then, 39) was the chief ophthalmologist at the Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital. When the bomb exploded, he was about 1900 meters from the hypocenter as he was on his way to work. At that moment, Hideo was wearing this national uniform for civilians. The bicycle that Hideo was riding was sent flying, and he suffered major burns to his face, both arms, and the lower half of his body. He couldn't move for about a month; and even after he recovered, keloids remained on his body. Many doctors at the Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital became victims of the atomic bomb while on their way to work that day. |
