Description | Binoculars Donated by Takashi Akinobu Approx. 1,900m from the hypocenter Enko Bridge Mr. Sentaro Akinobu (then, 64) who operated a barber shop near Enko Bridge was exposed to the A-bombing when he was on the second floor of his house, the residence above his barber shop. He suffered severe injuries with glass shards impaled in his body. Several hours later, a fire broke out at his collapsed home. While the fire was approaching, his wife Yasu, who was safe at her friend’s house, saved Sentaro and carried him on a hand cart together with other people toward Onaga and Futabayama Hill, but he died. This pair of binoculars was almost always placed by a window on the second floor. Sentaro used the item to view cherry blossoms on Hijiyama Hill. |
