Description | Koei Tomoda, the donor's younger brother (then, 16), was exposed to the bomb at Hatchobori. Injured, he managed to return home and headed alone to Tottori, where his mother's parents' home was located, in order to treat his injuries. However, he seemed to prefer his parents and returned to his family in Hiroshima around August 25. The next day, Koei was ill in bed with his hair falling out, suffering from high fever of 40℃ and died on the morning of August 27. This leather case and fountain pens which had been kept in a safe at home became his mementos. Three of five family members died, including his father Torakichi (then, 55) and his younger brother Sadanaru (then, 12), a junior high school student. |
