Description | Cabinet riddled with glass shards Donated by Shigeru Yamanaka Approx. 3,100m from the hypocenter Asahi-machi (now, Asahi 1-chome) On August 6, 1945, Shigeru Yamanaka (then, 35) experienced the bombing from the offices of the Marine Artillery Training Regiment on Miyuki-dori in Ujina-machi. Suddenly, the outside became purple and the glass, together with the window frames, were blown inward. One of the members of the unit was seriously wounded by the glass and headquarters was reporting that the entire city had been destroyed. Permission to return home was given, and once there, he saw that the glass doors in the back were mostly gone, the roof had been blown off, and the transom over the door had been reduced to rubble. Since this cabinet was in the entrance hall, the glass from the lattice doors had been blown into pieces and they were stuck in the cabinet. |
