This journal belonged to the donor's elder brother, Kazuhiko Sasaki (then, 12), a first-year student at First Hiroshima Prefectural Junior High School. Kazuhiko kept this journal in June 1945, when he went to his father's home town to lend a hand with farm work. He engaged in farm work, to which he was unaccustomed, to give whatever help he could to his rural home village suffering a severe labor shortage. He recorded his earnest efforts in this journal. Kazuhiko was exposed to the bomb in a school building on August 6 as he was standing by for building demolition work. His mother, Ayako, found Kazuhiko on the morning of the 8th near the swimming pool of his junior high school. He was already dead, with serious burns on his face. |
