Donated by Otagawa Construction Office of the Ministry of Construction
Before the bombing, the area in and around Peace Memorial Park was one of the busiest, most prosperous parts of town. Thousands of people lived and worked there. However, the atomic bomb instantly crushed the entire area and left it burned to the ground. These roof tiles were among approximately 4,000 similar tiles dug up more than a half century after the atomic bombing during a 1996 riverbank beautification project from the bottom of the Motoyasugawa River that flows east of Peace Park.
